When Does A Domain Expire?

Each domain name has an expiry date.  Domain names are registered on an annual basis and can be registered for up to 10 years.

The life-cycle for your domain name depends on the TLD of the domain, for ICANN domains (.com, .org. .net etc.) the life cycle is as follows:

After a domain expires it will go into a Grace Period for 40 days.  During this period you will still be able to renew the domain as normal.

After this the domain will enter a Redemption state for 30 days.  You can still renew a domain which is in this state, however you will need to contact us directly and there will be a fee to do this.

After leaving Redemption a domain will become Pending Delete.  This can take up to 5 days, and after this the domain will be released and made openly available for registration.  The period during which the domain will be pending delete will be randomised to prevent "Drop Catching."

Once a domain enters Pending Delete it's not possible to recover, and you will need to wait for it to drop so you can try to re-register it.

If your domain is registered with us you can view it's current Expiry date by doing the following:

  1. First log in to your account at http://www.hostiname.us
  2. After this select My Domains
  3. On this screen under My Domains you will see all of the domains you have registered with us currently.  Beside the domains will be the date they were registered and the date they currently expire.
